Mocha Cakes or mini mocha cupcakes. I am not a native newporter, but from what I gather everyone who grew up in Newport knows about Mocha cake and this bakery has brought back a classic childhood birthday treat.

I've been eyeing this place since the put a sign out front that they would be coming. The location is so perfect for a bakery and coffee store, and exactly what the hospital district needs.
As of today, they had only been open for a week. The interior is bright and clean, with cases and shelves full of freshly baked goodies. I passed by on my way home from work and picked up a brownie, a loaf of sourdough, and a frosted cinnamon babka that I'm going to make French toast with over the weekend.
I immediately ate the brownie as I drove home and it was chewy, chocolatey and not too sweet. My husband tore into the sourdough as soon as I walked in the door and devoured a fourth of it on the spot. I'm going to slice and freeze the babka, but if it's anything as good as the others, this weekend will be delicious.
The menu is still expanding as they settle into their new space, but they already have pasteries, breads, breakfast sandwiches, fresh drinks and homemade soups. There's easy free parking in front, and their prices are super competitive. I'm super stoked Provencal has made this their new home, and think they will be very successful here! I can't wait to see what the do next with their expanding offerings.
